Measuring the correct weight of your horse
Hey fellow horse feeders, knowing the correct weight of your horse AND tracking it regularly (not every 6 months) is one of the easiest ways to monitor if you are feeding too much or too little.
One way is using a horse weight tape. BUT beware as research show these are notoriously incorrect, usually by around 60kg to little. However they are a consistent measure for you.
The ultimate is of course a livestock weight scale for horses. But most of us dont have access to that so the next best thing is a simple measurement you can take as a part of your routine and do a simple calculation as below:
weight (kg) = (girth cm x girth cm ) x length cm 11880cm
This regular simple way to track your horses' weight should be a part of every horse's routine, then you cant get shocked by a sudden increase or decrease and the corresponding health issues!
